Chris Rini is an artist from New York City who moved to Denmark with his wife and children in 2022. The past two years have been dedicated to exploring the cultural differences between the two countries from the social and political to the aesthetic.
After a career in art and design media documenting the sport of mixed martial arts, Chris has shifted his artistic focus to capturing Danish landscapes and people through a new perspective. By combining techniques and materials from NYC's theater production houses together with the kommune-supported endeavors in Roskilde's vibrant neighborhood of Musicon, he has developed a way to transform recycled construction materials into classical pieces of artwork that resemble stained glass.
The resulting works are a way for Danes to view their home through a foreigner's eyes, and perhaps see it in a new light. The visual language mixes the linework of graphic novels with the format and color schemes of 1930s Japanese woodblock prints for an aesthetic that is fresh and yet resonates with Nordic sensibility. In short, the work reflects a New York City artist's melting pot of influences capturing what it is to be a 'Stranger in a Dane Land'.
